Most businesses start out connecting two sites over a VPN across a broadband or transit connection, and most eventually outgrow it — at which point a data centre interconnect between those two facilities becomes the obvious next step. The reasons are consistent:

• Latency stops being a lottery. A well-designed interconnect takes one path and keeps to it. Public routing changes with traffic conditions, so the same 10GB backup can take forty minutes one night and three hours the next.
• Security posture improves. Traffic that never enters the public internet cannot be sniffed or hijacked on it. For regulated industries — finance, healthcare, government-adjacent work — that removes an entire category of risk conversation.
• Diversity becomes possible. Two interconnects over physically separate entry points into each facility mean a single cable cut or a single dig-up no longer takes the business offline.
• Cloud performance improves. Direct paths into cloud on-ramps in Cyberjaya and Kuala Lumpur cut the latency and jitter of hybrid workloads, which matters most for databases, virtual desktops and anything that chats between on-premise and cloud.
• Growth stops requiring re-architecture. Adding 1Gbps or 10Gbps to an existing interconnect is an upgrade conversation, not a redesign.
